The crux of the problem remains unresolved – we are still living in the shadow of the tyranny. What put Hong Kong in this dire straits is not the extradition bill nor Carrie Lam. The culprit is the corrupt political system. Since our government and legislature are formed undemocratically, the regime is unrestrained and never took its people seriously.
The Five Demands do not stop with “Withdrawal of extradition bill” and “Independent Inquiry to Police Brutality”. We must treat the Five Demands as a whole. The rationale behind the Five Demands is power to the people. Hong Kong is tarnished by tyranny, but our battle cries still stand strong in leading us out to liberation in democracy and freedom.
In early September, students’ unions of higher institutions set deadline of 13/9 for the regime, before which the regime must respond to the Five Demands. This corrupt regime, again, ignored. We urge Hongkongers to participate in a general strike between 1st October to 7th October, and continue with non-cooperation movements to increase the cost of governance of the regime.
Students’ unions of higher institutions originally planned to organize an assembly on 13/9, but these two weeks have shown strike actions can achieve more by reaching and engaging the public. We also urge students to keep conveying the idea of fighting for the Five Demands through actions such as street counter and public screenings. We will provide the necessary resources and assistance to students and will fully support their actions.
Long-term protest is exhausting. But we will keep fighting the tyranny because we have long passed the point of no return. We sincerely ask every Hongkongers to stand together until glory reclaims Hong Kong.
Liberate Hong Kong, revolution of our times.
